Ruby Chishti: we leave, we never leave, we return endlessly

Ruby Chishti’s We leave, we never leave, we return endlessly, her first solo exhibition at Twelve Gates Arts in Philadelphia (September 4-26, 2015), was a requiem for homes lost to the universalized experience of diaspora–an attempt to capture the essence of being both in multiple places and nowhere at the same time, and the inescapable homelessness of being an exile. The work on view explores the artist’s own skeletal memories of homes she’s lived in and places she’s been, sites she has physically departed, but that continue to haunt her.
